Bamboo Blinds

Bamboo blinds are made of split bamboo, reed and grass woven together, and they behave differently from every fabric on this site: they filter light and heat while still letting air move through the weave. On a balcony, a verandah or a restaurant terrace that is exactly right — you get shade without turning the space into a sealed box.

They are the familiar chick blind, made properly. The weave breaks a hard sun into dappled light rather than blocking it, and the natural colour warms up anything it hangs in front of. They are not a privacy blind after dark and they are not blackout, so pair them with something else if the window is a bedroom. Keep them out of standing rain: bamboo tolerates humidity, but repeated soaking will eventually split the reeds.

Frequently asked questions

Can bamboo blinds be used on an open balcony?
Yes, and that is where they work best — the weave gives shade while letting air move, so a balcony stays usable instead of turning into a hot box. Two conditions: roll them up before heavy rain rather than letting them soak, and fix the bottom so the wind cannot slap them against the railing. Given both, a bamboo blind on a covered balcony lasts years. In driving rain with no cover, expect the reeds to split eventually.
Which blinds survive Dhaka humidity and monsoon splash?
Anything that does not mind getting damp: PVC and aluminium slats, PVC vertical louvres, and polyester roller fabrics all wipe clean and do not swell. Natural wood is the one to keep away from a window that takes rain, because repeated wetting warps the slats — faux wood gives the same look without that risk. For a bathroom or an open balcony, PVC or aluminium is the safe answer.
Can people see in through a sunscreen blind at night?
Yes, and this surprises people. Sunscreen mesh works by contrast: in daylight the bright side is outside, so you can see out and passers-by cannot see in. After dark the bright side is inside and that reverses — with the lights on, silhouettes are visible from the street. For a street-facing bedroom or a ground floor, pair sunscreen with a blackout blind on the same window, or choose a light-filtering fabric instead.
How long does it take from order to installation?
Three days for a standard blind, five for a motorised one, counted from the day the order is confirmed to the day it is fitted. Those are working targets for stock fabric in Dhaka; a colour we have to bring in, or a very large made-to-order size, can add to them, and we tell you that when you order rather than afterwards.
