Venetian Blinds

A venetian blind is a ladder of horizontal slats that tilt through a full range and then stack up out of the way. Tilting is the point: you can bounce a hard afternoon sun up onto the ceiling as diffused light, keep the view of the sky and lose the view of the street, or close the slats down to a near-solid panel — all without moving the blind.

Aluminium slats are thin, light and completely unbothered by damp, so they suit kitchens, bathrooms and any window that takes rain. PVC is heavier and cheaper and holds its shape well in a utility space. Both wipe clean, which matters here — slats do collect dust, and a monthly wipe is the difference between crisp and grey. 25mm slats read fine and technical; 50mm read broader and softer.

Frequently asked questions

Do slatted blinds collect a lot of dust in Dhaka?
Yes, more than a flat roller blind does — a slatted blind has many more upward-facing surfaces. The fix is a routine, not a product: tilt the slats closed so they form a flat face, run a duster or a vacuum brush down them, then tilt the other way and repeat. Two minutes a window, once a month. Aluminium and PVC slats also take a damp cloth, which natural wood does not.
Which blinds survive Dhaka humidity and monsoon splash?
Anything that does not mind getting damp: PVC and aluminium slats, PVC vertical louvres, and polyester roller fabrics all wipe clean and do not swell. Natural wood is the one to keep away from a window that takes rain, because repeated wetting warps the slats — faux wood gives the same look without that risk. For a bathroom or an open balcony, PVC or aluminium is the safe answer.
Do I measure inside the window frame or outside it?
Both are valid, and they give different results. An inside (reveal) mount looks tidier and keeps the sill usable, but a little light always escapes at the edges. An outside mount overlaps the frame by two to three inches on each side and is the only way to get a genuinely dark bedroom. Tell us which you want and measure accordingly — our /measure guide walks through both with the exact points to record.
How long does it take from order to installation?
Three days for a standard blind, five for a motorised one, counted from the day the order is confirmed to the day it is fitted. Those are working targets for stock fabric in Dhaka; a colour we have to bring in, or a very large made-to-order size, can add to them, and we tell you that when you order rather than afterwards.
