Blinds in Banani, Dhaka
Banani mixes two very different jobs on the same street. Kemal Ataturk Avenue and the roads either side of it are dense with offices, showrooms and restaurants on the lower floors, with apartments above them. That means we are often in the same building twice: once for a shopfront and once for a flat, and the specification is completely different each time.
For the commercial floors, the constraint is usually glazing that runs the full width of the unit with no reveal to mount into. Those get an outside mount, and often vertical blinds, because a run of twenty feet of glass is not a job for a single roller. Restaurants ask for something that survives being cleaned around every night, which usually means PVC louvres rather than fabric.
The residential floors above are conventional apartments with aluminium sliders. The complication there is noise and street light from the avenue: a plain light-filtering blind does nothing about either, so bedrooms facing the road usually end up with a blackout blind mounted outside the frame with a generous overlap.

Measuring and installation
Commercial units are fitted before opening hours where possible, since drilling above a dining room at lunchtime helps nobody. Residential floors are straightforward daytime visits. Parking on the avenue is the practical constraint, so we unload once and carry up.
Frequently asked questions
How long does installation take on the day?
A straightforward roller or zebra blind takes ten to fifteen minutes per window once the brackets are marked, so a four-window flat is usually done inside an hour. Concrete lintels, steel frames and outside mounts on tiled walls take longer because every fixing has to be drilled and plugged. Our team brings the drill, the plugs and a vacuum, and clears up before leaving.
Do I measure inside the window frame or outside it?
Both are valid, and they give different results. An inside (reveal) mount looks tidier and keeps the sill usable, but a little light always escapes at the edges. An outside mount overlaps the frame by two to three inches on each side and is the only way to get a genuinely dark bedroom. My blackout blind still lets light in at the edges. Why?
Because "blackout" describes the fabric, not the installation. The cloth itself passes no light, but a blind mounted inside the reveal must be cut a few millimetres narrower than the opening in order to move, and daylight finds that gap. If total darkness is the goal, mount outside the frame with a two to three inch overlap on each side and a deeper drop below the sill. Say so before we measure and we will size it that way from the start.
