Day & Night Zebra Blind

This is the zebra blind most people mean when they ask for one. Alternating sheer and opaque stripes run across a single roller, and a short pull on the chain slides the layers against each other. Solid over solid and the room drops to a dim, even calm. Solid over sheer and filtered daylight arrives in bands across the whole window rather than through one gap at the top.

For a Dhaka living room where the light swings from flat morning haze to hard four o'clock sun, that adjustability is the point — one blind doing the job of a net curtain and a heavy one, without either of them to wash. It reads as a light-filtering blind at every setting, so it is not a substitute for blackout in a bedroom you need dark.

Care and cleaning

Keep it dry. Vacuum both layers monthly with a brush head and lift dust off the sheer stripes rather than rubbing them, since the open weave distorts under pressure. Spot-clean only, and never roll the blind up while it is damp.

How does a zebra blind actually work?
The fabric is one continuous loop with alternating sheer and solid horizontal stripes, running over a roller tube. Pulling the chain moves the front layer against the back layer. When solid sits over solid, the window is closed and light drops to a dim glow. When solid sits over sheer, you get an even band of filtered daylight across the whole window instead of a single gap at the top or bottom, which is what makes it more useful than a plain roller in a room you use all day.
How do I clean a roller or zebra blind?
Lower the blind fully and go over both faces with a vacuum brush head or a dry microfibre cloth, top to bottom. Do that monthly and Dhaka dust never builds into a grey film. For a mark, dab with a barely damp cloth and mild soap, then leave the blind down until it is completely dry — rolling up a wet blind is what causes streaks and a musty smell. Never soak the fabric, never scrub, and never machine-wash a blackout blind: the coating on the back is what blocks the light and it will crack.
Are chain-operated blinds safe around small children?
A loose bead chain is a strangulation hazard, and it is entirely avoidable. Every chain blind we install comes with a cleat or tensioner that is screwed to the wall or frame so the loop is held taut and out of reach — please let us fix it rather than leaving the chain hanging. In a child's bedroom the safest answer is a motorised blind with no chain at all, and cots should never be placed against a window with a hanging cord.
Do I measure inside the window frame or outside it?
Both are valid, and they give different results. An inside (reveal) mount looks tidier and keeps the sill usable, but a little light always escapes at the edges. An outside mount overlaps the frame by two to three inches on each side and is the only way to get a genuinely dark bedroom.
