Motorised blinds in Dhaka: what to ask before you pay for a motor
Which windows are worth motorising, how rechargeable motors behave in load shedding, and what remote versus WiFi actually changes day to day.
Motorisation is priced per window, not per square foot, which means it is a fixed addition to a line rather than something that scales with size. That single fact should shape where you spend it.
The windows worth motorising
Anything you cannot comfortably reach. A window above a fixed sofa, a kitchen counter or a stairwell. If operating a blind means moving furniture, the blind stops being operated at all within a month.
Runs of four or more blinds. One remote replaces four separate chains, and a wall of glass moves as one instead of in stages. This is the case where motorisation stops being a luxury and starts being the only sensible specification.
Children's rooms. A motorised blind has no hanging cord, which removes the strangulation hazard entirely rather than managing it with a cleat.
High windows in a double-height space. The alternative is a ladder, every time.
The windows not worth motorising
A small bathroom window you open once a day. A kitchen blind you reach over the sink anyway. A guest room used twice a year. The motor costs the same on all of them as it does on the window you actually use, so put it where the daily benefit is.
Power, and load shedding
Rechargeable tubular motors need no new wiring. You charge them from a nearby socket every few months and they keep working through load shedding, because the charge is in the motor rather than coming off the mains. For most Dhaka flats this is the right answer.
Mains-powered motors need a point near the window, which is easiest arranged before the blinds go up — and much harder afterwards, when it means chasing a wall. If a flat is still being finished, decide now.
Either way, every motorised blind we supply can also be operated by hand if the battery is flat.
Remote or WiFi
Remote is a handset that talks to the motor directly. It works during a power cut and during an internet outage, and there is nothing to configure. It is what most people should buy.
WiFi adds app control, schedules and voice assistants. The blind can open at seven and close at sunset without anyone touching it, which is genuinely useful on a west window. It depends on your router, so it stops being smart during an internet outage — the handset still works.
Both are currently priced at ৳10,000 per window. WiFi may be repriced once the owner confirms it; the site will show the change the moment it does.
Before you order
Ask us three things: how the motor is charged, what happens when the battery runs out, and how a fault is serviced. A motorised blind is a mechanism with a lifespan, and the answers should be given in writing before you pay for one.
