Standard Roman Blind

The plain roman: a flat fabric panel with battened folds, hanging perfectly flat when down and stacking into even horizontal pleats as it rises. Unlined, so daylight comes through the cloth and the room stays soft rather than dark.

It is the version to choose when the fabric is meant to be seen — a sitting room, a bay window, anywhere a roller blind would look too utilitarian.

Light Filtering: Softens daylight into an even glow. Shapes are visible through it, detail is not.

Care and cleaning

Vacuum with a brush head monthly, following the folds. Spot-clean only — a roman blind must not be removed and washed, as the battens and stitching set the fold spacing.

Frequently asked questions

How much space does a roman blind need at the top?
More than a roller, because the folds stack rather than wind onto a tube. On a tall window the stack can be a hand-span deep when the blind is fully raised, and that stack sits over the top of the glass unless the blind is mounted above the opening. If the reveal is shallow, mount it outside the frame or choose a honeycomb blind, which folds much flatter.
Will the fabric fade in direct Dhaka sun?
Every fabric fades eventually under direct sun; the question is how fast and how evenly. Solution-dyed polyester and sunscreen mesh hold colour far better than printed cotton-look fabrics, and mid tones show fading less than deep navy or black. A west or south-west window is the harshest position in a Dhaka flat, so if that is where the blind goes, choose a lighter mid tone and expect the visible side to soften slightly over several years rather than patch unevenly.
Do I measure inside the window frame or outside it?
Both are valid, and they give different results. An inside (reveal) mount looks tidier and keeps the sill usable, but a little light always escapes at the edges. An outside mount overlaps the frame by two to three inches on each side and is the only way to get a genuinely dark bedroom. Tell us which you want and measure accordingly — our /measure guide walks through both with the exact points to record.
How long does it take from order to installation?
Three days for a standard blind, five for a motorised one, counted from the day the order is confirmed to the day it is fitted. Those are working targets for stock fabric in Dhaka; a colour we have to bring in, or a very large made-to-order size, can add to them, and we tell you that when you order rather than afterwards.
